More convenient search, find, and enter variables in the input dialog box

Analysis procedures need variable names but it is time consuming to have to scroll through the list when there are hundreds of variables. It would help if there was a better way to search, find, and enter the variable names. At the very least, if the names could be typed into menu boxes that would be some help. Better yet, if search could be initiated from typing in the box.

I have always been able to search using the first letter of the variable name. It I typed in two letters very fast I could make the two letter search work. Are you saying that searching works better than that now?
